About Jesse Caron: The Caron family was heavily involved in baseball along with their two sons, Cody and Jesse. Unfortunately, we lost Jesse to a tragic accident shortly after high school. The family sponsored this tournament in Jesse’s name to promote sportsmanship and a love of the game that was so important to their family.

Message from the Division Manager:

As we enter our final tournament to wrap up the season, I just want to say a big thank you to all the coaches, team managers and volunteers who have helped make this a fun and successful season of baseball. Thank you to the players for all your hard work and dedication, and for representing Ladner Minor Baseball with pride - best of luck to everyone!

Fair Play rules will continue to be in affect during the final tournament; should a team not abide by the fair play rules the game will be considered a forfeit.

  • Each player must sit once before someone sits twice unless injury or other circumstances agreeable to both teams prevent this. If a player cannot play defensively, they must come out of the game.
  • Infield Positions: Players are allowed to play a maximum of four (4) innings infield, of which only one position may be played twice. The only position exempt from this is the catcher. Your catcher may occupy the position for a maximum of three (3) innings each. Only two (2) of the innings played at catcher will count towards their infield time.
  • Outfield positions: Players shall be allowed to play a maximum of three (3) innings per game. All outfield positions are considered the same position.
  • It is the coach’s responsibility to keep track of the player’s positions and they must provide it to the league or other coach should it be requested.

  • All teams will be placed into three x 3 team pools for a round robin phase and play two games.

Tiebreakers to be used at the conclusion of the Round Robin

Tiebreaker #1:  Determining the TOP TEAM within an individual pool

Note 1: This tiebreaker is only used to determine the top ranked team in each pool. All remaining teams will follow Tiebreaker #2 to determine team rankings of 4 through 9

Note 2: All steps are only calculated using the games played between the tied teams, not all games played.

Note 3: Once the top team is determined within the pool, this tiebreaker is concluded and all remaining teams enter the Tiebreaker #2 process for the 4th to 9th placed teams fresh.

Step 1: Head to head result amongst tied teams.

Step 2: If the tie persists, the placement of teams will be dictated by the lowest ratio of number of runs allowed per defensive inning. A defensive inning is defined as having taken the field and a pitch thrown.

Step 3: If the tie persists, the placement of teams will be dictated by the highest ratio of runs scored per offensive inning. An offensive inning is defined as having been at bat for at least one pitch.

Step 4: If the tie persists, apply Step 2 and Step 3 (if necessary) but include all games played in the Round Robin. If all three teams are involved in the tiebreaker, advance to Step 5.

Step 5: If the tie persists, the placement of teams will be dictated by the team that has scored the highest number of runs over all games in the Round Robin.

Step 6: If two teams remain, coin toss (conducted in person or on video call). If three teams remain, a random draw will be conducted by the Division Manager.

Tiebreaker #2: Determining rankings for 1ST to 3RD (pool winners) and then 4TH TO 9TH PLACE

Note 1: all steps are calculated using both round robin games played by each team

Step 1: Head to head result amongst the tied teams if it is a two way tie and both teams were in the same pool for the round robin.

Step 2: If the tie persists or Step 1 was not able to be applied, the team with the highest number of wins between the tied teams.

Step 3: If the tie persists, the placement of teams will be dictated by the lowest ratio of number of runs allowed per defensive inning. A defensive inning is defined as having taken the field and a pitch thrown.

Step 4: If the tie persists, the placement of teams will be dictated by the highest ratio of runs scored per offensive inning. An offensive inning is defined as having been at bat for at least one pitch.

Seed 1, 2, 3 Tiebreaker Explanation

Teams involved: Sharks (Pool A Winner), Tigers (Pool B Winner), Black Sox (Pool C Winner)

Step 1: Head to head result amongst the tied teams if it is a two way tie and both teams were in the same pool for the round robin.

Results: No teams were in the same pool. This step does not resolve 3 way tie.

Step 2: If the tie persists or Step 1 was not able to be applied, the team with the highest number of wins between the tied teams.

Results: All teams had two wins. This step does not resolve 3 way tie.

Step 3: If the tie persists, the placement of teams will be dictated by the lowest ratio of number of runs allowed per defensive inning. A defensive inning is defined as having taken the field and a pitch thrown.

Results:

Tigers: 10 defensive innings, 10 runs allowed = 1.0
Sharks: 11 defensive innings, 12 runs allowed = 1.09
Black Sox: 10 defensive innings, 11 runs allowed = 1.1

This step determines the placement for all three teams:

1st seed = Tigers
2nd seed = Sharks
3rd seed = Black Sox

Seed 4, 5, 6 Tiebreaker Explanation

Teams involved: Dodgers, Bombers, Blue Jays

Step 1: Head to head result amongst the tied teams if it is a two way tie and both teams were in the same pool for the round robin.

Results: No teams were in the same pool. This step does not resolve 3 way tie.

Step 2: If the tie persists or Step 1 was not able to be applied, the team with the highest number of wins between the tied teams.

Results: All teams had one win. This step does not resolve 3 way tie.

Step 3: If the tie persists, the placement of teams will be dictated by the lowest ratio of number of runs allowed per defensive inning. A defensive inning is defined as having taken the field and a pitch thrown.

Results:

Bombers: 9 defensive innings, 13 runs allowed = 1.44
Dodgers: 11 defensive innings, 23 runs allowed = 2.09
Blue Jays: 9 defensive innings, 19 runs allowed = 2.11

This step determines the placement for all three teams:

4th seed = Bombers
5th seed = Dodgers
6th seed = Blue Jays

Seed 7, 8, 9 Tiebreaker Explanation

Teams involved: Mets, Expos, Athletics

Step 1: Head to head result amongst the tied teams if it is a two way tie and both teams were in the same pool for the round robin.

Results: No teams were in the same pool. This step does not resolve 3 way tie.

Step 2: If the tie persists or Step 1 was not able to be applied, the team with the highest number of wins between the tied teams.

Results: No teams earned a win. This step does not resolve 3 way tie.

Step 3: If the tie persists, the placement of teams will be dictated by the lowest ratio of number of runs allowed per defensive inning. A defensive inning is defined as having taken the field and a pitch thrown.

Results:

Mets: 11 defensive innings, 19 runs allowed = 1.73 runs per inning allowed
Athletics: 8 defensive innings, 16 runs allowed = 2 runs per inning allowed
Expos: 8 defensive innings, 24 runs allowed = 3 runs per inning allowed

This step determines the placement for all three teams:

7th seed = Mets
8th seed = Athletics
9th seed = Expos
